Dog-friendly Kayaking In The Riverland

Looking for dog-friendly kayak hire in the Riverland?  At Canoe Adventures - Riverland, we know that many people love exploring the Murray River with their four-legged companion.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome on many of our kayak experiences, provided they can travel safely and quietly without disturbing wildlife or other river users, and that they are not entering National Park areas that disallow dogs.

Dog-Friendly Kayak Hire

Our double kayaks have room for one medium-sized dog as well as two paddlers.

If you prefer to paddle solo, we also have a limited number of single kayaks that can accommodate a small-to-medium-sized dog. Please let us know when booking hire kayaks so we can reserve one for you.

Whether you're planning a short paddle or a multi-day kayaking trip, we're happy to discuss the best kayak for you and your dog.

Dog-Friendly Guided Kayak Tours

Well behaved dogs, who will stay on a lead, not bark at bird-and-animal life, and not jump into the water are allowed to join us on a Guided Kayak Tour by prior arrangement.

Planning a kayaking and camping adventure?

These Murray River campsites allow dogs if they are kept on a lead, and we can deliver kayaks directly to them for you.

Is Your Dog Ready for Kayaking?

Not every dog enjoys travelling in a kayak.

For everyone's safety—and to protect the beautiful Riverland environment—dogs should:

  • Be comfortable sitting quietly in a kayak.
  • Remain in the kayak for the entire trip.
  • Not bark at birds, wildlife or other river users.
  • Not attempt to jump into the river while paddling.
  • Be under their owner's control at all times.
  • Be kept on lead in dog-friendly areas, and not taken into National Park areas that do not allow them.

A calm, well-trained dog makes the experience much more enjoyable for everyone.

Dog Lifejackets

Your dog's safety is important too.

We have a limited number of dog lifejackets available for hire at no extra cost. These are suitable for small and medium-sized dogs. We do not have lifejackets suitable for large dogs.

Please let us know your dog's approximate size when booking so we can check availability.

Which Riverland campsites allow dogs?
Our morning sojourn on the Murray River was the highlight of our time in the Riverland... Gurra Gurra Creek rang with the sound of nesting Whistling Kites, Yellow Rosellas and Reed Warblers, in particular, as we drifted slowly with the current and a gentle tail wind. We had it all to ourselves. Entering the River, the stunning red cliffs and width of the waterway added contrast. Then into the more intimate entrance to the Ajax Achilles Lakes, flanked by lignum, reeds and towered over by cooba wattles, black box and river red gums. Reluctantly, we returned to reality as we re-entered the River near Lock 4 where Kym was waiting, very patiently, to pull us ash
