Sunset Tours

On this one-way trip we launch near Lock Four and paddle through the enchanting Ajax Achilles wetlands, home to kangaroos, pelicans, cormorants, whistling kites and many other native birds. Then out onto the river where we stop for a cuppa to enjoy the colours of sunset lighting up the magnificent Bookpurnong Cliffs. The tour concludes on the still waters of Gurra Gurra Creek, where you can just drift along enjoying the stars and water reflections, or use your head-torch to spot the possums that come out at twilight. With 3 different possible exit points you are under no pressure to "make it to the end" but can paddle at your own pace.  Tour includes shuttles to and from your vehicle or accommodation.

Canoe Adventures were professional and engaging. Kim welcomed my family from my 13 year old to my 5 year old. We all loved it. The stop off for a cuppa and nibbles was an added bonus. Kim pointed out the fauna that was around from large water birds to a tiny Peron's tree frog. The highlight was Kayaking under the stars. Amazing. Thank you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book a tour for only one person?

Our minimum booking fee for any tour, is the cost of 2 adults.  If you are willing to pay for two, we are happy to run a tour for one person.

What time does the tour start?

Tour times vary according to the seasonally changing time of sunset.  All sunset tours start between one and a half hours, and one and three quarter hours before sunset.  Accurate tour times are available by clicking on the "Book Now" button.

Will I get wet?

Probably not.  Capsizes are extremely rare.   Occasionally some people's unique paddling style may splash enough water to dampen clothing.  We supply dry bags to keep your valuables and jackets dry.  Your guide will be taking photos during your tour, so you can keep your camera and phone at home if you wish.

Are there any crocodiles?

No.  There are no crocodiles or alligators in South Australia.  Happy paddling!

This was simply an awesome trip which I can thoroughly recommend to anyone. We did the sunset canoe excursion with two young children (aged 8 and 12) with Andrew as our guide. Andrew was very informative, gave a wonderful description of the river and wildlife as we paddled along the calm waters and we had some great close up views of Kangaroos drinking at the water's edge. The sunset as we joined the main river was breathtaking and after stopping for a quick picnic, we donned our head torches and paddled the river in the dark spotting wallabies as we went.......truely an amazing experience. Honestly this is one of the best tours we have ever done and simply a must if you are in this area. Well done Andrew and Kym!!
